Air. M. Dunham, who had been staying at the Criterion, New Plymouth, returned to Wellington yesterday.
Guests at the Criterion, New Plymouth, are Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Cousins and Mr. K. L. Cousins, Wellington, Mr. A. Jacobson, Wellington, Mr. Guy Lawrence, Wellington, Mr. Druisse. London, and Mr. E. E. Jolley, Wellington. The condition of the Australian Prime Minister, Mr. J. H, Scullin, was slightly improved yesterday, according to a ■ wireless message received in Australia last night from the Orama, on which Mr. Scullin is travelling to the Imperial Conference. Mr. E. Griffiths, New Plymouth, has received advice that his son, Dr. Pete? Griffiths, who recently arrived in England as medical officer of the lonic, has been accepted as medical officer of the Royal Air Force. Dr. Griffiths is an old boy of the New Plymouth High School. Mr. J. Brown was yesterday re-elected chairman of directors of the Maketawa Dairy Company for the thirty-fifth year in succession. Mr. Brown holds the record for length of service among, dairy ‘ factory chairmen in Taranaki, if not in the Dominion. The appointment of Inspector James Kear Simpson and Inspector Stephen Till to be superintendents in the New Zealand Police Force was notified in a ■Gazette last night, states a Wellington Press Association message. The appointment in each case is to take effect on September 1. Dr. J. M. Clarke, superintendent of the New Plymouth Public Hospital, who is at present on a visit to England and the Continent, expects to return to New Plymouth at the end of the year..
