WANGANUI RUGBY VICTORY
DEFEAT "OF MANA WHENUA SIDE, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. In a Rugby maiteh which never rose to great heights from the spectators’ standpoint Wanganui outclassed Mana-! whenua by *22 points to S to-day. In thei opening stages it appeared as thougli Manawhenua would be a hard .proposition, the pack showing plenty of vim ill dribbling rushes which repeatedly held the opponents on their goal line. Half* time came with the ecores standing in Wanganui’s favour at 0 to 3, Tilley ■registering a penalty goal for Mana* whenua while Darby was responsible foi’ two tries for Wanganui which were not converted.
The second spell revealed infinitely more life in the Wanganui pack and the backs were able to appreciate openings in the defence. Manawhenua’s rear*, guard did not have pace sufficient to cope with its opponents once clear ground was offered. Gibbons scored twice for Wanganui, Morgan once and Ambrose once, Morgan being responsible for, two conversions, bringing the Wanganui score to 22. In the last stages tho Manawhenua van was . showing. something of its earlier-dash^find'iwas.'hook-ing the ball. After a ceasel&ai'battle on the Wanganui line Amadio and Tilley converted.
