IMPROVING NGAMOTU BEACH

COMMITTEE’*? SUGG ESTIONS. A meeting of the Ngamotu Seaside Improvement Committee last night decided to approach ' the unemployment CGirimitte'e and explain to it the scheme of work intended to be undertaken with the £lOO in the hands of the committee. This is comprised ,of £69 being the committee’s proportion of the receipts of the N' av Year’s Day-regatta and £3O donated by the Seaside Resort Company. It was agfped that £3O should be a’.located to tree plan ting east of the Palladium. The other works approved, wort improvements of the beach road between the Palladium and the breakwater and the ploughing of rushes in preparation for the proposed lawns.

■ Messrs. R. Glengarry (chairman), A. I Wood (secretary) and G. Roper were deputed to wait on the unemployment committee with a view to obtaining a subsidy on the understanding that the .work was done ‘by unemployed men, and to i.ntei'view the- Seaside' Resort Qompany regarding the need for the i ’.prpvemerits to. tho.- public conveniences. .. '

The secretary was instructed, to write to the Mayor ■ expressing aprpeciation of his action in deciding the apportionment of*the regatta profits. It was decided to hold a. working 'bee on Saturday to clean among the plantations east of the Palladium. Thanks were accorded Messrs, Glengarry and Woods for their work in connection with the refreshment tent run for the benefit' of the committee during the visit Of " the Laburnum in February. It ’was reported that owing to the' inclement weather the balance-sheet showed A ’profit of only 5s 4d.
