CHAIWbD WITH CUTTI.W ORXBR I On a charge of cutting the corner of Devon Street into Liardet Street on August 5, Hedley Eva, aged 11, a mechanic, appeared before the magistrate, Mr. R. W. Tate, at New Plymouth yesterday. Eva was convicted and ordered to pay 10s co-sts and his license was suspended for one month. Constable Stanton said that he had observed Eva cut the corner to the extent of 24 feet. “It seems to me to be quite clear,” eaid the magistrate. “It is difficult for mo to fine you like older people. I will have to take you off the road.” For driving a car along Devon Street on August 13 at 1.35 a.m. and approaching the intersection of Brougham Street at a speed exceeding 15 miles an hour, John Keith Nodder was fined 10s with costs 10s. Senior-Sergeant McCrorie oaid the offence occurred at 1.35 a.m. when, the constable said, Nodder was driving at 50 miles an hour. Nodder said he was driving at between 25 and 30 miles an hour. In answer to the magistrate’s question as to why he did not observe the rules, Nodder replied that at that time
there was no traffic on the street. That was no reason for breaking the rules, remarked the magistrate. FAILURE TO FURNISH RETURNS. Edwin Thomao Burke was charged, that, being the owner of land at Otakeho of an improved value of more than £5OO, he failed to furnish a return in the prescribed form to the Commissioner of Taxes. Burke, who admitted the charge by letter, was fined £2 (cccits £1 13s). —hi iiw in» W
