CUTTING OUR OWN THROATS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —After reading this in the Daily News, “In New Zealand last year,” Mr. McArthur said last week, “ambergris realising about £25,000 was found, two pieces alone bringing £BOOO and £7900,” I thought of the thousands of whales j fringing in to foreigners, not New Zea- ’ landers, literally millions, while in a iew years it will be no whale, no ambergris. And yet we allow our fool legislators to put first mortgages on our properties by borrowing half a million the unemployed this year. To-day’s politicians have only two ideas, borrow to buy votes, and tax us to pay. No ini‘Hative, no business capacity.—l am, etc., BYSTANDER.
