NO MOTUROA POST OFFICE

REPLY TO BEPP.ESENTATIONS. Notice was received at a meeting of the Moturoa Ratepayers’ and Progressive Association last night that the Postmaster-General did not see his way at the present time to sanction a permanent post office at Moturoa, The Hon. S. G. Smith wrote that in accordance with his promise he had brought under-the notice of the Post-master-General the representations made by a deputation from the Progressive Association. He had received from his colleague a reply in which the Postmas-ter-General said very little business was transacted at the post and telegraph office already provided at Moturoa, and that his department would not be justified in acceding to the request for a permanent establishment. He appreciated, however, that money order and sav-ings-bank facilities might be made available at the existing office, and arrange--* ments to this end were pending. The Hon. J. B. Donald had promised to look further into th© matter of the establishment of a permanent post office when he was-visiting the district. There were present at th© meting Messrs. R. Glengarry (chairman), L. Sutton, F. Healy, W. Hunter, R. Scott, F. Stevens and* C. Collins (secretary). A donation of £-1 Is. was received from th© Hon. S. G. Smith, who was thanked.
