CURRENT MAGAZINI< S. Prominent- in a parcel of magazines sent through Avery and Sons, Ltd., New Plymouth, by the wholesale .distributors (Gordon and Gotch, Ltd.,) is .the August' number of the Strand. A magazine that prints short stories by such popular writers as P. G. Wodehouse, H. de Vere Stacpoole, Denis Mackail and Roland Pcrtwee cannot fail to be attractive, and The Strand always adds a few more substantial contributions. The feature of this 1 issue is a fine article on gliding, which is hailed as “the sport of tomorrow.” The Grand, essentially a story maga-' zine, offers a well varied selection of fiction. One of Conan Doyle’e best stories is reprinted, and romance, mystery and adventure are to be found in plenty, while the length of the stories is judiciously varied; Fiction is also the stock-in-trade cf the Twenty Story Magazine-, which ; packs a tremendous ' ’supply" ■' < matter ..between its coyersU- “All ! ’cbm; plete stories” , is the' 'slogan' wiili which

this magazine appeals to readers, who should find it a very entertaining companion on a journey. . . . • Alongside the fiction magazines it is interesting to see such well known periodicals as the Sunday at Homeland Great Thoughts, the former definitely religious in outlook and the latter specialising in literature and art.; Bqth have had long and successful eare.ei'- 1 , and their persistence in an imserious age denotes their quality. ' Every Girl’s Paper is just the thing for girls in their ’teens, its mixture: of stories and informative articles; covering a wide field.
