NEW PLYMOUTH INGLESIDE

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The last New Plymouth inglcside of the season was held in the Agricultural Hall last night under? the auspices - of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society, and the spacious hall was packed. Inglesides possess a charm all their own; an atmosphere of warm hospitality is apparent upon entering the hall and the refreshing “old-time” and Scottish melodies at once invite dancers to dance. The gathering was a great success and all were loath to leave the floor. The Agricultural Hall presented a fine spectacle in decorative ' aft. Gold and black streamers were closely latticed, save for three large squares of streamers suspended from the lights, which were also draped with bunting. Chief Dr.”'D? E. Brown (whs played in by Pipers Goble and Reid and extended a welcome to the assembly. Then, partnering Mrs. Brown, he opened the inglcside with the Grand March. Reels and Circassian circles followed, intermingled with waltzes, valetas, West Country waltzes and a few modern dances. Martin’s orchestra provided a delectable programme for fhe “old-time” dances, while pipers merrily piped for the Scottish measures.

With due ceremony the haggis was played around the hall by Pipers R. Black rind Goble, and borne by Piper P. Henry. Burns’ ode to Scotland’s national delicacy was delivered by the chief. Then followed supper arranged by Mesdames D. E. Brown, Andrews, Johnson, Thompson, Davidson, Jones and Corkill.

i While the dancers rested from their - exertions a fine musical programme was greatly appreciated. The well-known tenor, Mr. Jack Quin, sang “Adieu, Narie,” and “Bonny Mary of Argyle.” Two wee lassies, Joan Austin and Ailsa Lafferty,, gave a delightful exhibition of the Irish Jig, and an unusual number was provided whep Mrs. Pat Allen (vioj lin), accompanied by Mr. Rupert George i (Spanish guitar), played “Highland Wreath” and “Blaze Away.” In both I numbers Mrs. Allen displayed fine technique and temperament. Messrs J. Cpr--' ’ •kill (secretary) and W. S. Jones were ,7 the masters of ceremony. mil
