At Forest Hills, with the first set a walk-over for Miss Betty Nuthall, the onlookers were treated to a spectacular rally by Miss Harper in the second set, when with a series of dashing, effective placements from the forehand she forced the Englishwoman into errors. She ran up a 4 — 2 lead, but she had already tired badly and Miss Nuthall calmly pulled out to 5 —4. Although Miss Harper fought desperately to deuce in the last game several times, she was unable to withstand the Englishwoman’s hard strokes; The match lasted 36 minutes. In the final of the women’s doubles Misses Nuthall and Sarah Palfrey beat Misses Harper and Cross, 3—6, 6—3, 7 —5.
