DEATH OF SIR G. HUNTER

FUNERAL AT WAIPUKURAU.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Waipnkurau, Last Night. ’ The funeral of Sir George Hunter left St. Mary’s Anglican church to-day following a public service conducted by Canon E. D. Rice. The congregation was too large to be accommodated in the church so the coffin was placed outside. The vicar eulogised the life of Sir George and said he was generous to a degree, particularly to returned soldiers. Mr. H. Al. Campbell (Hawke’s Bay) represented the Reform Party and the Hon. A. J. Murdoch the Government. Jockey Club stewards were the pall bearers. Town premises were closed during the service. At the conclusion of the service the body was taken to the home station for private internment, a large number of cars following to the borough boundary. A special car carried a great number of beautiful wreaths received from various parts of the Dominion.
