SMALL BOXING PURSES

DECISIONS OF ASSOCIATION. ' I By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Aug. 22. At the Boxing Association the question of the percentage of purses for professional contests was discussed at length. The following remit was moved on behalf of Otago. In lieu of the stated purse the words “‘75 per cent, of the net profits or such other percentage as the association in . general meeting may agree upon” be substituted. Delegates pointed out that now a £3OO : purse allowed associations to put on the ■ best contests. If the percentage system , was adopted there would be no hope for smaller associations putting on a big < fight until after the cities had had the ; services of the best boxers. The remit was lost by 15 votes to four, i Mr. Talbot (Wellington) moved that the following addition be made to the ; rule: "It shall be a breach of this rule to make a professional payment by way i of training expenses 'which in effect < amounts to paying a bigger purse than provided in the rule.” This resolution was carried by a large majority.
