GASTRO-ENTERITIS
EITDEMTC IN SYDNEY. The abnormally high death rate of patients suffering from gastro-enteritis, which occurred at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney during January, February and Alarcli of thisyear, is referred to in the annual repoi't of the institution. The increased percentage mortality, the report states, was due entirely to the deaths among infants suffering from gastro-enteritis. The mortality reached as high as 45 pei - cent., despite every known method of treatment, regardless of expense, beng tried to secure better results.' ■ The type of case differed in many respects from the gastro-enteritis of previous years, in that the disease was more acute, more severe, and despite treatment rapidly progressed in many instances to a fatal- termination.
