ENGLAND WINS BOWLING. BOXING ROUSES CRITICS PERMANENT GAMES ' PLAS By Talngraph—Prs«« Assn.— Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. Montreal, August 20. In the bowling contest at the Empirfl Games at Hamilton England won the doubles championship, New Zealand and Canada tieing for second place. In the semi-finals of the doubles England beat South Africa by 36 to 8 and New Zealand (McWhannell and Fielding) beat Canada by 19 to 16. The Nev; Zealanders early assumed a lead and held it to the end. The bowling singles resulted: England (Colquhoun) 21, Canada (Reid) 20. Owing to rough water the single sculls and other rowing events have been postponed till to-morrow. Results of the Empire boxing tourney are :—
Class list. 61b. SEMI-FINALS. „ D. C. Gallagher, Australia, beat E. D» Pierce, South Africa, on points. The ver® diet was awarded by a majority of two judges to one. The crowd favoured Pierce. The boiirywas featured in the programme. At the beginning of the second round the Australian had a close shave, when Pierce caught him with a jolting left and' drove Gallagher backwards. The latter recovered quickly and fought carefully from then on. His cleaner hitting and straight left punching swung, the tide, in his favour. F. Malih, England, beat Teddy Phillips, Canada on points. Class lOet. 71b. Semi-final. —Leonard Hall, South Africa, gained the decision over F.. Brookman, England. Class 9st. 91b.-Semi-final. —James Rowland, Scotland, gained the decision over Albert Love, "England. Class 9st. Semi-final. —F. R. Meachem, England, beat Paul Necteau, Canada. Class Bst. Semi-final. —T. Pardoe, England, gained the decision over R. Galloway, Canada. Class 7st. 121 b. Semi-final. —H. Mizler, England, beat Thomas Holt, Scotland, on a technical knock-out. Wrestling results are: — Bantam weight final* —J. Trifunov, Cart’ ada, defeated Joe Reid, England. Lightweight final.—Sowie Thomas, Canada, defeated Harold Angus, England. _ A meeting to-day decided to continue the Empire Games at. regular intervals. A committee was appointed to arrange details consisting of Mr. T. R. Loudon (Canada), Mr. R.' H. Weir (Australia), Captain Welsford (South Africa), Mr. R. J. Hobha (New Zealand) and Mr. J. T. Wadmore (England). ' The committee will report to a second . meeting to be held on Friday, It is considered probable a foiir-year plan will be adopted. PEARCE TO REMAIN IN CANADA. FATHER TO COACH AT Rec. 10.10 p.m. Hamilton, Aug. 21, It was officially announced last night that Bob Pearce, the Australian sculler, will become a resident of Hamilton with his father, who will become coach of the Hamilton Leander Boat Club.
