Messrs. J. Hine (acting chairman) a.nd J. R. Corrigan, a member of the Dairy Produce Board, were passengers yesterday for Wellington, where they will attend a meeting of the board to-day. Mr. W, Madgwick, chairman of the Hauraki Plains County Council, who has been visiting Taranaki, proceeded to Wellington yesterday. Mr. Madgwick was formerly a well known resident of the Normanby district. . A Christchurch message reports the death of Mr. William Frederick McLean Buckley, aged 69. He was for some time chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club and was once a well-known polo player. " News has been received that the .Governor-General of Australia, Lord Stonehaven, whose term of office will expire shortly, is to spend a week or two in New Zealand en route to England. He is due to arrive in Wellington on October 6. Lord Stonehaven will be accompanied by his aide-de-camp, Lieutenant-Commander Nicholl. Miss B. G. Miller, who has been on the staff of the Tikorangi school for some years and leaves shortly for Lyall Bay, Wellington, was last night the recipient of a leather suitcase and a crystal, vase, tokens of esteem from the pupils °i the school. Mr. T. R. Hine said Miss Miller -had made many friends ruling her stay at Tikorangi and would be greatly missed. The whole district joined in wishing her success. Mr. J. H. Allen, who was chairman of the Tikorangi school committee for' U years and who did not seek re-election at the last annual meeting, was last ni"ht presented with a case of pipes by past and present committeemen who worked with him during, bis of service. Mr. C. Foreman .in making the presentation during the in te ™ al ’ n school concert referred to Mr. Allen fine service for Tikorangi m educational matters and especially in promoting the building of the fine new school.
