WRESTLING AT STRATFORD
There is a wrestling boom on at present both in Australia and New Zealand, and -udging by the crowded houses that are being drawn in the larger centres wrestling has a firm hold on the sporting public. With characteristic promptitude the organisers of sport in Stratford have formed a wrestling association and have arranged for a bout between Ebert (Austria) and’ Lundyn (Finland) to take place at the Stratford Town Hall on the evening of Thursday, August 28. The principals are well-known experts at wrestling and have appeared in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin, putting up great performances in each centre? Wrestling was first boomed- in Taranaki about 17 or 18 years ago-by the late Lewis Robertson, who was killed at Gallipoli during the Great War. The bouts between Robertson, Preschner, Stoker Penny, Joe Gardiner, Bob Scott, Alex Bain and Harry Pearce are still spoken of by the supporters of wrestling in those days. Wrestling enthusiasts can look forward to a stirring contest next Thursday, and no doubt the hall will be packed to capacity for the initial contest. 'There v/ill be several bouts between! Local amateurs before the main bout takes place. The Stratford Wrestling Association present only first-class professionals and further contests between the mo’st notable of tlie wrestlers at present in New Zealand • are being arranged.
