DARING JEWEL ROBBERY
AUCKLAND CITY SENSATION THIEF WORKED IN FLOODLIGHT. RINGS WORTH £3OO REMOVED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Aug. 20. One of the most daring robberies in Auckland for many years was carried out last night when the glass display case at the entrance t-o David Silk’s jewellery shop was smashed and 30 diamond rings valued conservatively at £3OO removed. The thief or thieves worked under a floodlight and was not detected, although four constables patrol Queen Street at night. It is believed advantage was taken of the noise caused by the automatic drills being used on the tramway job®nearby. Treacle and paper were used to deaden the sound and to prevent the glass falling.
