SPEEDSTER’S NOVEL EXCUSE
CHASED DEBTOR OF HIS FIRM. .-<■(By-Wire-Special to News.) ■ Auckland, Last Night. What must surely be the most novel excuse 'ever advanced for by any motorist was told to Mr. McKean at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Alfred James Taylor was charged with dangerous driving in Manukau Road. “I saw a car in front of me driven by a man who owed money to the firm by which I am employed,” said Taylor. He accelerated and chased the debtor, running through a speed trap on the way. Mr. McKean asked Taylor if he was successful in collecting the outstanding account.
“I regret that I was unable to get the money,” was the reply. “I also regret that I have to add to your financial troubles by fining you 30s. and costs,” said the magistrate. The court smiled.
