FINE WOOL DEMAND. Winchombe, Carson, Ltd., Sydney, report: A keen French demand has been the outstanding feature of recent wool auctions. France is the largest producer of womens woollen fabrics.. Fashion in regard to ■ feminine, apparel has been; credited with being one of.-the chief factors which caused wool to cheapen. It looks as though the “fair sex” may put the sheep’s staple on its feet. France is the home of fashion, and- judging- by. demand for wool and reports from that country, French millmen are finding a ready market for their products. The lower cost of the raw material has enabled them to turn out attractive goods made from wool at prices which keep the use of artificial fibres in check. Provided those goods are light, of “natty” design, and keep reasonable in price, they have everything in their favour."Most peopleware called upon to economise nowadays. From the point of view of economy and ability to retain their “fresh” appearance, woollen goods stand unrivalled. No artificially produced fibre 'has the elasticity of wool. That special advantage is evident when woollen apparel, after some wear, is put away for a time. Despite some recentlypublished statements regarding the in- ; roads of artificial fibres in the world’s textile trade, we feel reasonably confident that the sheep’s staple jvill hold its own provided its cost does not get too high. July was a critical month in regard to wool prices, owing to the large supply of the raw material available in London. We confidently say that the market has come through its testing period with far more buoyancy than was generally expected.. ....
