WHALE VISITS HARBOUR

TWO HOURS OF EXCITEMENT CHASE BY SPEED LAUNCHES ATTEMPTS TO CAPTURE CAIL By Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11.10 p.m. Sydney, August 12. An unusual and in some respects unwelcome visitor to Sydney Harbour to-day was a 40-fect humpback whale which careered from one side to the other and even disported itself under the new bridge, where it spouted water to the great delight of the bridge builders. Half a dozen speed launches followed it and attempts were made by fishermen to harpoon it, also to shoot it, without avail. One launch ventured so close to the monster that the boat was damaged and the occupants thrown off their feet. Zoological officials'on the harbour front were greatly interested in the pursuit and had visions of financial interests in its capture alive or dead. Eventually, after two hours excitement the whale disappeared. Ferry travellers then lost their nervousness.
