OTHER FLAT RACES

WINNERS LOOK WELL CONCEALED.

The Cashmere Plate should provide a fine contest and there are a large number of good quality hacks engaged. Charnicuse is sure to be improved by her race at the Hunt meeting, and Rasouli is.highly regarded. The new. seaeon’s three-year-olds are an exceptionally good lot and Gustavo, Kakara, Painkiller, Shatter and Sleipner have all shown promise. It looks as if the juveniles hold the strongest hand, and PAINKILLER and Kakara may have the most friends.

Whatever mount Bert Ellis takes in the Jumpers’ Flat he is sure to be the favourite way. On King’s Jest the versatile southern horseman would be backed down to a short price. Carinthia and Fine Acre have both shown pace on the flat, but if Omeo took this race on Taranaki fanciers would rely on him. Jen is a lightweight with a reasonable chance, but it looks as if KING’S JEST will be the elect of the majority.

Another good field of- hacks is carded for the Avonhead Handicap. Hounslow ran a fine race behind Toxeuma and Starshooter at the Hunt meeting, and Lord Thomond ran a solid fourth in that race. He is sure to be improved with the gallop. Hunting Call won decisively at Trentham and Deeert Song won comfortably at the Hunt races. Of the remainder most improvement can be looked for in On Top, who should not be long in reproducing his best form. However, LORD THOMOND and Desert Song appeal as a pair with excellent prospects. > l: . ’ .
