Theatre crowds watching a fire late last night at the Turkish baths next to the Alhambra, Leicester Square, saw a woman leave a sixth-storey window and cling to the letter R on the “Turkish Bath” sign. There she swung, until rescued from a fireescape.
There were many other exciting incidents. A fireman overcome by heat fell from a ladder.
A woman’s charred body was found on the fourth floor when the Hames had been mastered. The Alhambra was saved from the flames.
