PROBATION FOR FORGERY
SUFTRESSION OF NAME REFUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 8. Thomas Alphonsus O’Brien, aged 24, to-day was placed on probation for three years on six charges of forgery. He asked for the suppression of his name. The Chief Justice replied: "I recognise that the publication of your name may be very distressing and possibly injurious to other people, but it does not lie in your mouth to ask that your name be suppressed. You should have thought of that earlier.” His Honour was hesitant about probation, but he had a recommendation not only from the probation officer but from the police and Crown prosecutor.
