GAOL FOR RESISTING POLICE
WELLINGTON DANCE HALL ITIACAS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 8. Contradictory evidence was given today when Angus McDonald, aged 27, fireman, was charged as the outcome of an affair outside a dance hall at the corner of Cuba and Vivian Streets on February 22. Tho police attempted to arrest McDonald, who resisted violently and the crowd took his part, the police being roughly handled and accused getting away. He gave himself up a few days ago. Some witnesses said he did not start tho row, but was acting the part of peacemaker. Mr. E. Page, S.M., said he did not look lightly on resistance to the police, especially in the face of a hostile crowd such as was gathered that night, and imposed a sentence of three months’ hard labour.
Accused was also fined £2 for'assaulting Percival Jones, in default seven days. When Mr. Page said that the license of’ tho hall should bo taken away the police replied that that had already been done.
