Commenting further upon the work of the members, Mr. Syme said that, as club captain and on behalf of the club, he wished to congratulate the ■ members upon the conspicuous part they had played in assisting in the rescue of Mr. Hall. The position had been : fraught with grave danger,;:, but they • had- not spared .. themselves when the : call came, enduring the rigours to which they were subjected throughout the night with .a pluck and determination which enabled them to see their, injured comrade transported to safety. About u 0 members of the club attended the evening, at which Mr. L. L. White and Mr. F. W. Young, Auckland, were present. An excellent, interesting programme of films were shown by Mr. White, comprising scenes at Gillespie’s Beach (Westland), Fox Glacier, motoring in the Southern Alps, Cold Lakes district, Rotorua, sports on Mt. Ruapehu, in the far north, at the Alpine Club’s week-end trip on Mount Egmont in June, at Russell, at the Wanganui regatta, on the main road from Te Kuiti to Wanganui, and a couple of comedies. At the conclusion of the programme Mr. Syme expressed the club’s sincere thanks to Mr. White. Supper was served by the ladies. HANAU TOWN BOARD. SUBSIDY ON RATES RECEIVED. The monthly meeting of the Manaia Town Board on Thursday was attended by ’Messrs. H. Symmans, A. J. Christie, W. H. Robinson and V, F. Winter. In the absence of the chairman (Mr. H. Mead) owing to indisposition Mr. H. Symmans presided. The Australian Performing Rights Association wrote requesting the renewal of the town hall license fee for its copyright works during the current year. The request was agreed to. Permission was granted Mr. R. S. F. Craig to instal sewerage in his property, in Tauhuri Street. The Valuation Department wrote advising that a subsidy of £7O 3s on rates collected had been placed to the board’s credit. The treasurer’s report stated that the rates collected amounted to £63 5s 2d; Government subsidy on rates £7O 3s 6d; rents and licenses £6O 4s 6d; cemetery account £3 10s; Domain Board account £l4 2s; total £2ll 5s 2d. The outstanding rates amount to £276 12s sd. PARIHAKA SHIELD MATCH. POSTPONED UNTIL TUESDAY. Owing to difficulty in securing a ground the match for the Parihaka Shield between the Taranaki and Ngatiruanui Maori Rugby teams has been* postponed from to-day till Tuesday. This is the last match of the season and will be played at Okaiawa. The Taranaki team will be: Pakira, Parson, Armstrong, Mcßobert, C. Hohaia, R. Hohaia, G. Campbell, Pikau, Ratahi, Malcolm, Williams, Tito, Parata, M. Campbell, Toro. PATEA REFORM SUPPORTERS. APPRECIATION OF MR. DICKIE. At a representative meeting of the executive. of the Patea branch of the New Zealand Political Reform League, held at Wavcrlcy on Monday, it was unanimously decided to place on record appreciation of the services rendered the Dominion, and particularly the Patea electorate, by Mr. H. G. Dickie, M.P. Those present agreed to do all in their power to secure his return at the next general election. OPERA HOUSE TALKIES. “WHY BRING THAT UP?” “Why Bring That Up?”, the Two Black Crows’ first Paramount all-talking picture, will show at the Hawera Opera House Talkies for two nights and one matinee, commencing to-day at 2 p.m. Thousands of gramophone enthusiasts, who know the'Black Crows already by their records, will be given the chance to see and hear them for the first time. The Two Black Crows, Moran and Mack, spent several years in studying many distinct types of American negroes, before developing the characters they present in their famous comedy dialogue. Both comedians were born i?i the State ; of Kansas, which borders on the Southern States, and had ample opportunity to study the negroes during their youth. Mack says'that the contact with the happy, carefree blacks greatly influenced their comedy.
