The sequel to the wild and exciting wrestling bout in the town hall on July 14 was heard in the Police Court when William (Scotty) McDougal, was charged with striking Leonard Percival Naylor, who .acted as second for Tom Alley, McDougal's opponent. . Sergeant Clarke said the contest was very rough.’ He thought the . wrestlers were playing to the gallery. A constable said that in the seventh round the wrestlers struggledon a marrow ledge out of the ring. Eventually they were separated,.,... The defence was that McDougal struck. Naylor under extreme provocation. Naylor had a strangle hold on McDougal, who was excited. The Magistrate (Mr. F. K. Hunt): “Has the Wrestling Association taken steps in the matter? Why should I be bothered with it?” Counsel for the defence: “I submit that you should not be.” Accused said Naylor had one arm round his throat. He yelled three times to Naylor to let go and then struck him. , Tlie referee, Wilson, also gave evidence. He said McDougal was justified. The magistrate said Naylor should not have been hit, and be fined McDougal £2.
