NO RANSOM FOR MISSIONARY
CHINESE BANDITS’ ATROCITIES. WOMAN’S' FINGERS SEVERED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Aug. 5. “It is impossible for the Church Missionary Society to pay the ransoms the Chinese bandits demand,” said the Rev. W. Cash, secretary, referring to bandits cutting off the fingers of Miss Nettleton. “If we began to pay probably 100 missionaries would be captured within a week.” A Foreign Office official says: “We have already made numerous appeals to local authorities for troops to rescue Misses Nettleton and Harrison, and further urgent representations for swift action to secure their immediate release are being taken.” Recently the Communist troops captured two missionaries, Misses Nettleton and Harrison. They cut off the formers fingers on one hand and sent them to the Church Missionary Society, demanding a huge ransom.
