SCHOOL SPORT CONTROVERSY
OAR CHAMPIONSHIP “NO RACE.” By Telegraph--Press Assn.—Copyright. . Sydney, Aug. 7. A meeting of the Athletic Association of tho great public schools carried a motion declaring the 1930 eight-oar championship no race. The committee made r.o comment regarding the allegation of irregularities in connection with the training of the crews. A Sydney cablegram of August 2 said ft was announced that Sydney High School, of which the rowing eight won the last Head of the River race, was to have the title taken from it. Sydney Grammar School was also disqualified, in spite of the fact that the school did not have a crew in the finals. The action is said to have followed a secret report by a committee of masters of the great public schools on alleged irregularities in the training methods of the schools. Sydney High School announced its retirement from the great public school sport activities until tho.good name of the famous school is cleared.
