HUNTSMEN FOREGATHER

GOOD SPORT AT MOTON’UI

SOUTHERN CLUB RETURNS VISIT.

VISITOR SUSTAINS INJURIES.

(By

“Moturoa.”)

Members of the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club paid a return visit to the Taranaki Hunt Club yesterday and the sporting bodies met over the properties of Mr. W. Cole, and his neighbours at Motonui. Fitful sunshine proved, cheery and the occasional showers could not damp the enthusiasm, Iwo fine runs over wide stretches of country were enjoyed, but the day was marred by an accident to a young visitor, Ralph immons. Ralph had. a severe fall at a wire gate and his mount rolled across him. He was taken to Waitara, and recovered sufficiently to return home. Two long runs kept the followers busy. Huntsman Sexton estimates that the initial run carried the followers over six miles. Another good run was experienced when the second, hare, was raised. The escape, of, both hares is attributed to the dampness of the ground. The visitors were welcomed by the executive of the Taranaki Hunt Club and were entertained at dinner at Mr. and Mrs. M. Fahy’s hostelry. A hare was started in the gully at the bottom of Mr. Cole’s property. The hare smartly crossed the swamp to enter Mr. J. Draper’s property on to Mr. J. Purdie’s. Doubling, the quarry evaded the hounds to run into Mr. Draper's again and continue to Mr. P. Cole’s before turning across the Nikorima Road and into Mr. J. Cole’s. Running in a semi-circle the hare went into Air. Jonas’ and crossed this property into Air. James Purdie’s. Turning abruptly the quarry skirted the swamp and followed the gully as far as Air. Hill’s, where it circled across to the Nikoriina Road. The scent was lost on th® metal. Huntsman Sexton dsew the hounds down the Nikorima Road and crossed into Air. P. Cole’s, where a fresh hare was Qnly a dozen lengths in front of the leading hounds, the hare raced strongly into Mr. W. Wickham's and through Mr. Draper’s to cross ’the big swamp at the back of Mr. W. Cole’s. The pack received a slight check here and the hare was enabled to double back through Mr. P. Cole’s and into Mr. Bailey’s. The pack. was running well and at this stage was in full cry. The scent was lost in a swamp near the Alain North Road.

The party adjourned to Air. W. Vole's, where there was afternoon tea. Alaster Halcombe extended thanks to Air. and Aliss Cole for their hospitality and referred to the generosity of Air. Cole and his neighbours in placing their properties at the disposal of the followers.. The 1930 season had been brought pleasantly to a close with the visit of the Egmont-Wanganui Club. These visits were to their mutqal benefit and he hoped that they would become recognised annual gatherings. • In the absence of Master Dr. Simmons, who had had to convey his son to the hospital at Waitara, Air.
