The sale is reported to have taken place about ten days ago, the terms providing for delivery in Japan. Tim Kamo is a steel screw steamer of 1236 tons gross register, and was built in 1913 at Campbeltotvn, Scotland, by the Campbeltown Shipbuilding Company. NEW CARGO SWIVEL. - ' Designed with a view to minimising the accidents which occur while cargo is being worked, at least those for which the present form of cargo hook can be held responsible, a novel type of hook was demonstrated before a number of northern shipping men recently, The principle of the innovation is that of a c-hook completely closed, with a section of one side working on a swivel, and opening outwards. It is so designed that it cannot be opened while carrying a load nor can it be opened from pressure from outside. Further, the -arrangement is such that the strength of the hook is not affected. The new hook was invented by Mr. R. Barry, Auckland, who has obtained a patent for the device. The inventor claims for it. and in the opinion of those who watched the demonstration his claims are well justified, that it will not catch anywhere, such as on the hatch combings, in the yardarm or midship wires, in other gear about the hatchway, or be-.-come entangled in the men’s clothing.
