UNITED STATES NAVAL PLANS
USE OF SUBMARINE TONNAGE. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 8.30 p.m. Washington, August 8. Naval officials indicated to-day that the United States may abandon the pro* posed large fleet of submarines in favour of smaller submersible vessels suitable for coastal defence. ■ ‘ The Navy General Board, it is understood, is having difficulty to determine how to utilise to the best advantage the tonnage alloted to the United States in submarines by the- London Treaty. Tho general opinion seems to be against larger submersible craft.
