DUTIES ON STOCK FOODS
REMOVAL URGED AT PIHAMA. The Government was urged to remove the duties on imported etock foodo by shareholders of the Pihama Dairy Company on Saturday. The chairman, Mr, J. D. Conaglen, stated there was a good market for bacon and pork, but the duties on grain mitigated against economical production. Farmers needed these additional lines of revenue at times when their main commodity was bringing lower prices. He believed it would be of assistance if the duties were repealed. A voice: They are more likely to increase them. Mr, Tosund: If it ie' a matter of revenue this could be made up by taxing something else, : ; A voice: Tax bachelors! Mr. Tosland proceeded to commend peas as a fodder of great value in producing good quality pork; he intended t-' grow more this year. The chairman said Mr. Corrigan recently advocated that farmers grow their own meal, but he did not consider it an economical proposition to gro.w grain as good land would produce up to 2001 b. of butter-fat per acre.
