LADIES’ HOCKEY FINAL

INGLEWOOD WINS DIVISION STRATFORD T.H.S. BEATEN 6 TO L FAST, EVENLY CONTESTED GAME The Inglewood ladies’ hockey team won the divisional final mutch with Stratford Technical High School at Inglewood yesterday by six goals to one. It was a fairly evenly contested game played at a great pace. Being two points ahead of S.T.H.S., Inglewood needed a win or a draw to secure the divisional honours. From the bully School took play to Inglewood’s territory, where the home team was hard put to clear. Up and down play was the order and spectacular hockey was seen, much to the enjoyment of the fair crowd of spectators. Hard hitting by the backs and good forward movements kept matters rather open on both sides, numerous corner hits eventuating. Towards the end of the spell B. Watkins, with a fine solo effort, notched Inglewood’s first goal. Play who very even for the rest of the spell, which ended with School attacking.

With the advantage of the wind Inglewood went straight to the attack and from a well-judged centre by Mrs. Dobson L. Collingwood scored Inglewood’s second goal. School was putting up a good fight to hold the much more experienced players,- but from another good movement Inglewood added once more to its tally, B. Watkins making a shot that beat the opposing' goalie badly. From the ensuing bully School made a solid attack on Inglewood’s goal and with a wonderful shot M. Young completely beat Inglewood’s Custodian. Inglewood, not to be outdone, kept Stratford penned in its quarter and a number of corners eventuated. School with sound defence cleared, but back came the home team with a fine solo effort by N. Hunt, who registered the fourth goal. Then School was beginning to tire and the Inglewood forwards kept the visitors penned with , good efforts, ■from which B. Watkins netted the fifth and sixth goals. The Stratford girls put up a great fight against more experienced players and the scores did not actually represent the merits of the teams. . Mr. J. Nairn, Eltham, was the referee.
