TRAGEDY ON LAKE WINDERMERE.— Sir Henry Segrave, holder of the world’s land speed record, was killed on Lake Windermere on 13th June, during a successful attempt to wrest the world’s water speed record from America. His 4000 h.h. speed boat Miss England II. was damaged travelling at full speed, and sank. J. Willcocks, a mechanic, and Sir Henry were pulled out of the water, the latter with terrible injuries, from which he died two hours later. V. Halliwell, the engineer, was drowned.
