FARMERS’ COMPETITIONS
CONTINUATION OF JUDGING. MOKE GOOD ENSILAGE AT OKATO. Judging in the Okato district farmers’ competitions was continued yesterday, eight pits and a stack being completed by Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Department of Agriculture, assisted by (Mr. C. Haynes. Only those farmers actually concerned in the judging followed, Messrs H. T. Paul and W. Bridgeman being present both in the morning and afternoon and Messrs J. Hanson . and G. Benton in the afternoon. Mr. Bridgeman’s ensilage stack top- ! ped that section for the day with 89 points, but ranked below the tnrec stacks of Mr. H. T. Paul and Mr. J. J. Carey’s stack, which 'were judged the previous day. The hillside stack section was also headed by Mr. Bridgeman s ■pntry with 92 pointe, two pits of J. R. Hanson’s and that of Mr. P. A. Putt being placed above the only pit judged the day before. Mr. Hanson's very fine etack of hay was. placed one point below Mr. J. J. Corey’s, which had been Been on Wednesday. Mr. Corey scored jthe extra point in building. The only stack of maize encountered shis season came before the judge yesterday, being Mr. Hanson’s No. 1 liillstack. His other two stacks were jbf oats, as was a stack of Mr. Bridgeman’s. The latter’s hillside stack of 'grass ensilage taken from nearly 13 acres was exceptionally fine and came <>ut at the head of the section. Mr. Putt’s stack was most interesting, thepit being a partially cemented hillside ©no with a plastered runway for the ' easy access of the cart for feeding out. The results are: — - ensilage.
