EFFECTIVE PUBLICITY

ENCOURAGING TOURIST TRADE. WIDER OPERATIONS OVERSEAS. Tn an interview at Wellington the Minister 'in charge of Tourist Resorts, the Hon, P. A. de la Perrelle, stated that an erroneous impression had evidently found, its way into the newspapers in connection with the economies to be made in departments, particularly in regard to Tourist and Publicity appropriations. This year very substantial slims had been provided for both departments, and the money would be put to much better use than in former years. A comprehensive publicity campaign was to be made overseas, and ground heretofore hardly broken would this year receive special attention. Special instructions had been given to the Tourist Commissioners in Canada and Australia to give the utmost prominence to New Zealand’s many resorts. A very line publication setting out the attractions New Zealand offered would be circulated in Canada, the United States, Australia, Britain and European countries, and this would bo followed up by travelling representatives who would arrange tours, etc. Quite apart from this effort, advantage will be taken of other avenues to bring people to New Zealand. “No man more readily values the tourist traffic than I do,” remarked the Minister, “and I am hopeful, as a result of the Department’s activities, considerably to increase oversea visitors’ tours to our shores. The tourist traffic is a great industry, and we certainly have the goods to sell.”Mr. de la Perrelle also stated that southern I’esorts would be given considerably prominence.
