FIJI ISLANDS ROMANCE
LECTURE lA' REV. R. B. GOSNELL
An interesting lantern'lecture 011 the Romance of the Fiji Islands was given by the Rev. R. B, Gosnell in the Holy Trinity hall, Fitzroy, last evening. The hall was filled and the car fund, towards which the proceeds were to go, should benefit by a substantial sum. , In introducing Mr. Gosnell the Rev. W. S. C. Stephens, Vicar of Holy Trinity, expressed keen appreciation of the true Christian spirit that had led the minister of another church to offer his ser-. vices in aid of the Trinity car fund. Mr. Gosnell’s lecture followed his travels, in company with Mrs. Gosnell, through Fiji, the speakei’ describing the customs of the natives and illustrating the great change wrought in the islands by the transforming power of the Gospel. Humorous little stories and personal references lent it a most realistic touch and provided those present with a vivid picture of conditions in Fiji and the hardships that were faced by pioneer missionaries as well as those of the present day. He was assisted by Messrs. Blackball and Webster. At the conclusion of the lecture Mr. Stephens moved a vote of thanks which was carried by acclamation.
