' Playing with the sun behind them, the 'Ruanui early pressed the Rauru. From ' scrums-/and line-outs Campbell several tinids opened up play, but the - Rauru’s tackling proved effective. The Ruanui seemed .almost certain’ to score when Toss got’'-offside, enabling Rauru to clear, temporarily, Ruanui again pressed, Bishaw putting in a tricky run to score -under the posts. Tuki’s kick went over. Rauru 'assumed the offensive, Rama land Wakarua and later D. Broughton . and Rama, being associated in a ..couple of movements which gained a lot ?of .ground. Ruanui was relieved through’?# good kick by Toss, but back i camo Rauru, Wakarua scoring at the I corner. D. Broughton’s kick ’ell short. A determined attack by Ruanui resulted! in Ike dashing across in a good position from a scramble. Tuki again added the major points. Another try as a result of a speedy run by Ngaia, who received a good pass from Rangi Ruru, came within a few’.moments. Tuki’s kick was charged down. Bright open play by Ruanui soon brought a second try to Ike, and Tuki-converted for the third time. Tuki slipped when about to field a long kick, with the Rauru almost on top of him? and when the backs secured jiossession a try seemed almost a - certainty, only stubborn defence- taking play to the twe'llty-five at half-time. j After a good run by Pokai the ball I was carried by tlie forwards into the' Rauru' quarter.
