WOLF INVADES VILLAGE

A big, grey, hunger-stricken brute, white with lather dripping from his jaws, invaded tlie yard of the Burlacu family in Rosshoshan, Bessarabia. Bellowing cattle awakened the sleeping family. Alexandre Burlacu attacked the wolf with a club, but was knocked down and bitten in the head. His brother with an axe rushed to the rescue and was badly bitten, but drove ufi the wolf, which jumped a wall. The animal bit other peasants, one of whom was killed and six were sent to hospital.' The wolf was finally tracked to a forest, where it was shot.
Sixty cows bitten had to be killed to prevent them from going mad.
