EVERYBODY'S TALKIES. MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. • Ramon Novarro, dressed in the handsome uniform of a lieutenant of Napoleon Bonaparte, making his escape from a firing squad; climbing into a beautiful young woman’s boudoir in the dead of night; masquerading as a footman; dueling his way to fame and fortune —these are some of the sequences of “Devik May-Care,” Novarro’s all-talking-musical romance which commences a special sea-, son of three matinees and three nights at Everybody’s, New. Plymouth, to-day at 2 p.m. and 7.45 p.m. The new picture, adapted from the French play, “La Bataille des Dames,” is said to be a'perfect vehicle for the romantic Novarro. The story tells of the ad ventures, of Armand, the exiled Napoleon’s trusted lieutenant who schemes to bring back his liege to the throne of France. When he falls in love with Loonie, ardent Royalist, complications begin.. Dorothy Jordan, formerly of “Garrick Gaieties,” “Twinkle, Twinkle” and other Broadway musical comedies, has the leading feminine ole, this being her first feature venture into films. Marion Harris, wellknown Revue singer, has the prominent role of Countess. Louise, Others in tho east include John Miljan, William Humphrey, George Davies and Clifford Bruce. Tho six songs in, this musical romance were written by Herbert Stothart, cocomposer of “Rose Marie.” The songs • are sung by Novarro and Dorothy Jordan.. The big supporting programme will include tho funny men of filmland, Laurel and Hardy in “Night Owls”, (a funny two-rocl comedy), Carl Emmy’s performing dogs; George Lyons (vocal artist) and Metrotone news. THE REGENT. “THE TRESPASSER” TO-NIGHT. In “The Trespasser,”, all-talking attraction extraordinary, commencing at Tho Regent, New Plymouth, to-night, Gloria Swanson, plays the part of. Marion Donnell, a typiste.in the office of Hector Ferguson, a prominent Chicago lawyer. She elopes with Jack' Merrick, the sop of a millionaire, who Gias other views about the woman Jack should marry. On the day after the wedding, tho old father, John Merrick, is giving his son , some candid opinions about Marion, whom, incidentally, he has never seen, when she walks in on the heated pair. Her pride cannot bear this, so she flings aside her husband and her prospects, returning to Ferguson’s office. The marriage is annulled, and Jack goes to Paris, maitying Judith Carson, his father’s choice, who is, however, crippled for life in a train accident on the honeymoon. Meanwhile Marion, with a baby Merrick to look after, is having a hard struggle to live. On tho. verge of .a nervous breakdown, she is given a luxurious flat by Ferguson, her rather infatuated employer. The lawyer is suddenly taken ill, a painful scene ensuing when he 'ev pircs in tho presence of his wife and Mai ion. Tho story becomes tense when Jack Merrick learns that he has a son, and his father determines to rob Marion of the boy. Jack has just ranged himself on Marion’s side when Judith, his wife, tells of her decision to give t 'up her husband for the child’s sake. Marion immediately rejects tho sacrifice, and, leaving her son with the Merricks, disappears. During the course of a year Judith dies, and Jack, by means, of a telephonic communication, discovers Marion at a typistes’ agency, when,the pair are happily united once more.
