SATISFACTORY. POSITION SHOWN. ■‘The club’s position is satisfactory, and after allowing liberally for depreciation a reasonable profit is shown for the reason’s operations,” states the annual report of the Opunake Racing Club. “In accordance with a resolution of the committee the stakes for the last meeting were reduced to a margin a little above racing rule requirements, and in view of the fact that both gates and totalisator were down a little when compared with the previous season, the i reduction proved wise and warranted, j “Application was again made for an ■ extra permit, but in spite of the undoubted claims of the club for recognition, supported by a recommendation of the district committee, the request proved futile, and the conference now advises that permanent allocation of tho I two floating permits has been made in : favour of tho Whangarei and Taumarui nui clubs. i “Mr. J. Butler surrendered his lease j of the inner racecourse paddocks and : the right to graze it for a further period of seven years has been granted to Mr. . A. H. Stevenson on satisfactory terms and conditions. Objection was taken to the recent Government valuation of the racecourse property, and as a result, of representations made to the i department by the committee a reduction amounting to over £l5OO has been granted. ; , “The committee regrets that death has removed one of . the earliest members of the club, Mr.. M. Callander. “Messrs. Good, Forsyth and BarrBrown were nominated for the offices of president, vice-president and treasurer, . and no further nominations having been i received they are declared elected. WELBOURN HALL EUCHRE RESULTS AT SPECIAL EVJSJ.IXG At the special euchre party at the Welbourn Hall, New Plymouth, on Wednesday night, Mesdames Land and; Burns, divided first and. second prizes, Miss Laurence winning tho third after a playoff. Men’s prizes were won by Mr.:Wadsworth 1, Mr. T. Boulton 2, and Mr. Bellringer 3 after a play-off. Consolation prizes were won by Mrs. Palmer and Mr. Eva.
