EUCHRE AND PING-PONG. (From Our. Own Correspondent.) There wms a good attendance at the fourth euchre and ping-pong tournament under the auspices of the Anglican Church on Tuesday evening. There were 28 players of euchre, which was under the control of Messrs. 8. Death and E. W. Blackwell. The ladies’ prize was won for the second time in succession by Mrs. J. H. Tyack with 15 pointe. In the men’s division a playoO’ w as necessary between Messrs. G. Payne and E. W. Blackwell, the former winning. Following the bountiful supper supplied by members of the ladies’ guild and other helpers, 'the ping-pong tournament, in which practically all present took part, was carried on. In a play-off between Mrs. H. Grace and Mrs. »G. Lewis honours fell to the former, and in the .final play-off for the men’s prize Mr. B. Cleland defeated Mr. R. Jefcoate. CYCLING SEASON TO OPEN. After three months’ inactivity members of the Kaponga Cycle Club will open tile new season with a road race on July 20. It is expected that a number of riders from neighbouring clubs will take part. CHILDREN’S FANCY-DRESS BALL. Great enthusiasm is being aroused by the public school children’s fancy-dress ball, which takes place to-night. The children have been working hard at selling tickets, and also practising the .pretty old-time dances which will form a special feature of the programme. Surplus funds are to go to the school committee. ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Oddfellows’ Lodge was held on Monday evening, when P’.N.G. Bro. R. D. Dagg presided over ah attendance of 18 members. The report of the social committee, presented by the honorary secretary (Bro. J. H. Tyack) showed a credit balance of between £5 and £G, and this it was decided to place to the credit of the management fund account. The financial secretary (Bro. A. Melville) said the rule book was then available to members who had joined the hospital council, and he aski ed for their earnest perusal of the new agreement, which was now in opera- ; tion between the Friendly Societies* Council and the Hawera Hospital Board, as there were quite a number of rules that it was well for them to study. In order to stimulate interest among the young members Bro. Dagg .proposed that visits to and from .other lodges be more frequent, and this was carried unanimously. Th.e first visit will be to the Matilda ledge next week.
