It was not possible to make, grants for pianos for special classes this year, wrote the Education Department to the Taranaki Education Board yesterday. Air. P. J. H. White said it was evident the department did not realise the absolute necessity for pianos in such classes. It was impossible to conduct the classes properly without music. The senior inspector said it was possible, but not profitable, to conduct the classes without pianos. The possibility of raising money locally to earn a subsidy was mentioned, and the matter was referred to Messrs. White and W. H. Jones and Dr. W. M. Thomson.
