LAWLESSNESS IN INDIA

MONEY-LENDERS ATTACKED

MURDER OF WHOLE FAMILY

TRADE COLLAPSE BEGINS

By Telegraph—Prees Assn.-Copyright.

Delhi, July 15.

The serious disturbances in the Kishoregan sub-district of Mymensingh are, broadly speaking, a true form of attack by Moslem villagers on rich Hindu moneylenders, and are the effects of civil disobedience and‘the boycott. The trade collapse is now beginning. In this case the Moslems took vengeance’ on the nearest and handiest victims. •

Rioters, operating over an area of 150 square miles, for several days past have carried on a campaign of lawlessness, looting and murdei - in eight villages. Infuriated crowds vented their fury on the moneylenders, whose houses were sacked and looted.

At Jangalia a mob of several thousands savagely attacked a Hindu moneylender named Krishna Chandra, killing a whole family of nine with axes, setting fire to the house and flinging the bodies into the flames..

Krishna stoutly defended his family with a gun until his ammunition gave out. A small body of police fired on the. mob but was forced to retreat.

In other villages three were killed. The arrests totalled nearly 100.
