Five hundred men, employed in the Moree district, have ceased work as a protest against the new pastoral award. Fifteen hundred will meet in the various shearing sheds to-day. Officials of the Australian Workers’ Union take a grave view of the situation. The Dethridge award is regarded as the forerunner of many other measures to bring down wages. In Canberra it was suggested that the award will inspire an economic crisis to which the conditions of recent years have been leading Australia.
