By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. When in the vicinity of Cape Palliser early this morning Mr. J. H. Baxter, of Island Bay, and the crew of his launch had the unenviable experience of being caught in a southerly gale that sprang up. The force of the gale was so strong that the launch was unable to turn back to return to Island Bay, but was forced up the const, finally gaining shelter at Castlepoint. News of the safety of the launch and all on board reached Mrs. Baxter at her home at about 2 o clock this afternoon. She said: “It was a perfect ni"ht when Mr. Baxter set out for Cape 'Palliser at midnight on Tuesday, and there wasn’t the slightest suspicion of the storm.” Mrs. Baxter said that the launch had a very hard time getting to shelter and that the wind was so bad that it dare not turn back. The party will remain at Castlepoint until the weather is favourable for the return.
