The weather will be cold and changeable with scattered showers but will improve rapidly, later becoming unsettled again in the west coast - and southern districts of the South Island. An anti-cyclone is advancing on to New Zealand. Pressure has fallen again over eastern Australia. There will be strong south-westerly winds decreasing and later veering to westerly and northwesterly from Cook Strait southwards. Seas will be rough between Akaroa and East Cape and on the west coast of the North Island and moderate elsewhere
