DEATH OF REV. S. OSBORNE
MANY IN NEW PLYMOUTH.,
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WORK
The Rev. Samuel Osborne died in ~ Auckland on Tuesday at the age of 78 years. ’ Minister at St. Andrew’s Church, New Plymouth, for a considerable number of years, Mr. Osborne came to the town after his ordination and was inducted into the New Plymouth charge in Octo* ber, 1894. ’ , .. In Mr. Osborne’s ministry the church made steady progress, the congregations increased and the work went on hap* pily, not only with the New Plymouth church, but also in the surrounding dis* tricts. Church services were begun at . InMewood, Tarata, Waitiira and Okato, and everywhere outstanding progress was made. During his ministry a suitable* manse was built for the ministers on the property facing v Devon Street.In February, 1911, after 17 years of service, Mr. Osborne resigned from the church. Part of his retirement was spent in New Plymouth, where he was held in great respect and affection, but latterly he lived in Auckland. He is to be buried at To Henui cemetery beside his wife, who was a member of the family of Sir Robert Hart, ons of the makers of modern China-
