WORLD MOTOR TOUR

TWO CAMBRIDGE GRADUATES. Urged by the spirit of adventure and the desire to see as much of the world as possible, two young Cambridge graduates, Mr. J. B. Dixon and Mr. C, Shippam, arrived at Auckland on Monday by the Niagara in the course of a world tour by motor-ear. Their plans involve the driving of their car, a i) h.p. tourer, of British make, nearly 25,000 miles in less than a year. England was left between two and three months ago, Before being shipped at Vancouver the car was driven oOCO miles across Canada from Quebec. The itinerary includes a week in New Zealand. The two travellers will motor to Wellington and proceed from there to Sydney. Their object then is. to motor across Australia to Perth, and, With the

necessary sea connection, to continue by ear through Java, tho Malay States, Ceylon, India (Madras to Bombay, via Calcutta), Iraq, Persia,' Syria, Palestine, Italy and thence across Europe to England.

Mr. Shippam, who is in' charge of the travelling arrangements, said that automobile badges were being attached to the car in each country though which they passed, and he hoped to have a collection of 25 by next April. Tho car and its accessories are British throughout. The body, which is very distinctive in appearance, has been specially designed for the arduous journey. An extra petrol tank and an emergency tank for fresh water have been fitted under tho front seats. The two rear seats have been removed, and luggage is stored in tho space thus provided.

Sleeping accommodation for two is obtained by folding back the front seats,; so that the occupants completely in-' dependent of hotels. | . I
