BANKRUPT LABOURER
MEETING ADJOURNED SINE DIE. A labourer, Samuel Gordon Locklcy, New Plymouth, appeared yesterday heft .j the D.0.A., Mr. J. S. 8. Medley, in bankruptcy, but as there was not a quorum of creditors the meeting was adjourned sine die, after the bankrupt had given a statement. Furniture valued at £l5 was the only aeset, the liability to unsecured creditors amounting to £69 3«. The deficiency waft £54 3s. He was bankrupt about five years previously, stated Lockley, and he had been working as a labourer, except for one year, when he had been share-milking for Mr. Whiting. Being a married man with two children, he &aicl he was residing in New Plymouth, where he was employed on day labour by Messrs. J T. Julian and Son at the rate of 2s an hour. When he had broken his arm the accident had prevented him working for a month, with the result that he° had got behind in hie payments. During that period insurance amounting to about half the wages he had been earning was received. In addition, he had been put to further expense when hi« daughter had sustained a broken arm. A judgment summons- against bankrupt was obtained by Mr. Corbett, from whom he had purchased a bicycle. He could not pay and was forced to file. He drank very little and dkl not gamble or go to the races. All his debts had been incurred some time previous to his bankruptcy. Since he had been in New Plymouth he had not incurred further debts. While labouring on a bridge building contract bankrupt broke hie arm, As it took all of his wages to keep going he could make no offer to his creditors. The following were the unsecured creditors: Taranaki Hospital Board, £22 15s; Dr. Blackley, £1 16s; Dr. Reid, 10ft; Dr.' Hoekin,' £4; Dr. Thomson, ’£l 18; A. Smith, Okato, £5 10s; J. S. Fox, Okato, £5 10s; P. Corbett, Okato, £2; Johnson, £1 12s 6d; Andrews, Okato, £l4; W. Lind, Awatuna, £10; Lissaman, Kaponga, 8s 6d.
