CITY PAYROLL DISAPPEARS
INSTIGATION IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 8. Diligent inquiries are being, made by the detective force into the disappearance of notes amounting between £6OO and £7OO from the city treasury last Friday. In accordance with custom the payroll had been made up in a special box and this box was rifled, the notes being taken and the silver left, apparently being too bulky for the limited time the thief had to commit the theft.
